Suny evening, Jan 27

Dear Friends:

Today began at 6:00 a.m. with a phone call from the hospital that Kent had experienced two episodes of abnormal heart activity, for which they gave him medications. When I arrived, both his heart rate and his blood pressure were being kept at normal readings by use of medications. That remains the same at this hour. He has a secondary infection now in his lungs, and is on high powered antibiotics. He has a new doctor, who is treating only his disease. He has begun a different kind of medication to hold the Polychondritis in check. All in all, Kent is an extremely sick guy. He has been on a ventilator now for eight days, and that is a long time to be immoble.

Earthly physicians are doing all they can do. It is now up to the Great Physician whether He heals Kent here, or in Heaven. Please pray for our peace, which God has given in abundance throughout this week. We are amazed by the love and support that we have experienced. You friends are more valuable and precious to us than I could ever tell you. Thank you for your continued prayers. We cherish them. Let me assure you that, although there are tears, we are all fine here. We just want what God wants for Kent, and we are not selfish enough to demand that God keep him here with us if this is the picture of the rest of his earthly life. Please pray earneestly with us for God’s best for him. That is best for all of us, too.

In Him, Davidene and family

    Davidene,
Jen and I and the kids just prayed for Kent and for you all as we have many times over the last several days. You should hear the kids’ sweet voices in childlike faith ask God to cover you with His peace and love in the midst of this hard time. So may His peace and love (and even joy) be yours in abundance right now! We love you all.

Dear Davidene and loving family… you truly have an amazing husband, father, brother & uncle. God’s messenger of love, zest and joy all wrapped up in Kent’s body & soul. Simply amazing and I’m praying for God’s will, and for our Lord’s continued peace within Kent and all of his loved ones during this transitioning moment in time and beyond. Kent is truly an inspiration…

  14. Shouna and Gary Olson says:

It is a privilege to pray for Kent and for your family. May God’s perfect will be accomplished, peace and comfort for Kent and your family, and healing in his perfect timing and place, God has received so much honor and glory in Kent’s life, and through his unwavering committment and passion even in his illness. Kent is an inspiration and so are you, Davidene. Thank you for the opportunity to pray.

Davidene, please know the Kent and the family are being prayed for here in Singapore. Thank you for your demonstration of faith in this great trial. We not only pray for Kent’s healing, but also for the family’s strength and faith.

Davidene, thank you for continuing to keep us updated. Kent remains in my prayers and on my heart – as do you. Kent is one of the key people who helped us clear some hurdles at our institution and in our School of Business to start placing a greater emphasis on faith integration. I will always be grateful to him for his help and his encouragement during those times.

  17. Perry Bowers says:

Thanks for the update as I had not been aware of Kent’s situation. We will pray diligently for your whole family. So very thankful that our hope is grounded in God’s strong character and solid promises and that He has been faithful to His people throughout the generations. Appreciate your modeling Christ these past years filled with trials and your compelling witness to those who have yet to receive Christ.

  18. Max DeWeese says:

I go about throughout each day thinking of this special friend (and you dear ones) and prompted by the Holy Spirit to pray for you all. Your updates are a special lifeline.

  19. Mason Hopkins says:

    Davidene,
My prayers are with Kent, you and your family. Thank you for the many faithful years of Christlike example the both of you have been to me and my family. I love you both very much, and I am especially grateful for the years God gave me with Kent as a mentor, teacher and example of what it is to follow Christ!

  20. Tim Chaplin says:

  21. Nelson Lou says:

There was a supernatural encounter this morning @ 9:50 AM, Monday, Jan. 28, 2013 and these are Kent’s words as I saw it and as if he is talking to us:

“It has really bothered some people that I have had so little apprehension. I just have such FAITH in God that HE is in charge.”

“We read in Psalm 46:1-2, “God is a safe place to hide, ready to help when we need him. We stand fearless at the cliff-edge of doom, courageous in sea storm and earthquake.”

“One of my favorite verses in the Bible comforts me, “Don’t panic. I’m with you. There’s no need to fear for I’m your God.” (Isaiah 41:10).”

These words pop out in my computer screen when I turned on @ 9: 50 AM. I never saw this blog before, not in 2010, not last year, not last week, and was not searching for anything to read!!

I did have three prayers in 12 hours, yesterday PM by the pool, looking up the sky. Last night before bedtime, looking up at His hands. This morning upon waking up.

  22. Guy Madison says:

Hi, Davidene…continuing to pray for Kent’s total and complete healing and to pray earnestly with you for God’s best for him. Blessed by your walk of faith. Question… is it okay to come by the hospital and see you guys? Is Kent still in ICU at Mercy? I understand if it is family only, but I hated to at least not ask. Thank you.

  23. Joy Rhodes says:

Hi My Friend, holding you up in prayer. In asking others to pray for Kent and your family, it has given me opportunity to share Kent’s testimony of great fruit. Regardless if Kent can speak right now, his testimony speaks for him. What a model!
    Love to you all!

  24. Jim Anderson says:

My heart breaks at the thought of our great warrior/friend Kent in such a state. Seen through my eyes of flesh, I am shocked and appalled that such a thing could happen to our Superman brother in Christ.
But then I stop and pray, put on the eyes of the Spirit and consider how no man could behold our suffering King on His Cross…. and then ALL the world beheld His glory, even as He was being tortured ont he Cross. It was all part of His Glory, the Glory of the Father. This principle of being laid low to be glorified shocks and appalls us. It is foolishness…. or is it wisdom?
    Jesus showed us THE Answer.
While we want him with us as you do Davidene, we also you know that you want The GLORY even more.
    Marantha Lord!
    We love you saints!
    Jim Anthony

  25. Brett Pyle says:

“Well done, good and faithful servants” to you both Kent and Davidene! Your lives have impacted so many of us in positive ways and have advanced His Kingdom in the Marketplace. I praise God for the inspiring example you both have set!

Blessings and Peace in His Holy Name!

    Brett Pyle

  26. Jim Johnson says:

Praying for you my dear friend has always been a treat. Now more than ever I am excited to pray and see what God will do. Selfishly I hope He raises you up to share the journey with all of us. Even more selfishly I hope you will give Jesus a hug from me if this is the door for your great home coming. Davidene, may the Lords hand on your life be a continual comfort through this challenging time. You two have blessed so many of us, may the Lord lavishly love you through each of the minutes of this precious time. We love you both!
    Jim & Cris Johnson

  27. Doris W. Miller says:

I have been praying and will continue to do so that Father God will do what is best for Kent – whether it be in this life or in God’s Wonderful Kingdom in Heaven. Thankfully, we all who are true believers, will be re-united one day. I look forward to that Day to see my husband again!
God bless you, Davidene, as He carries you through this very difficult time. “The Eternal God is our Refuge, and underneath are the Everlasting Arms.” Deut 33:27

  28. Jim & Susan White says:

During this most difficult time for you and your family Davidene, your sharing your faith and love for our Heavenly Father and for Kent in such a special way reveal your intimacy and character with the Father and Kent.. Thank you for sharing and may you, Kent and family continue to experience His comfort, love and peace. It is our selfish prayer that the Lord will deliver Kent, yet again from death’s door, and God will be glorified in this way. Know that you are loved and in our prayers and that of so many here in Oregon.
