Christmas Letters

A CEO Shares the Meaning of Christmas

Beginning in 1974, we began the practice of sending Christmas Letters to all of our customers, vendors, co-workers, competitors, friends and family.  We have presented these as examples of how untrained writers like me can communicate values and spiritual truths to their co-workers, workplace associates, friends, and family in a “non-religious” way. I hope that you will enjoy reading these as much as I have enjoyed writing them over the years. May they inspire you to share verbally, by your actions, and in writing to those who are in your life.

Holiday Letters

A CEO Shares His Heart Throughout the Year

In keeping with the “From My Heart to Yours” series, this book is a collection of holiday-themed letters that Kent has written over the years to co-workers and peers. These letters range in topic from New Years to 4th of July and get to the “heart” of things around the holidays we all enjoy throughout the year. These letters provide a great example of ways to share Christ and faith-based messages in a “non-religious” way in the workplace and with friends and family.

Letters to Lance

A Father Shares Wisdom with His 21 Year-Old Son

As his father, I wanted to remind Lance of a few important thoughts. Over twenty years ago, when he was about to turn 21 years of age and would formally be an adult, I wrote 21 letters. He would soon leave the university, get married, and go out into the world to seek his future. So, I picked 21 words, which became the themes of these letters, and gave him one each day leading up to his 21st birthday. During those few weeks I spent many late evenings just thinking and writing about what was close to my heart to share with my only son. I hope that these letters will be an encouragement to you as a son or a father or a grandson. And may you receive the same blessings from God that our family has received as we have tried to follow God’s pathway for our lives.

Letters to Kenda

A Father Writes His Daughter at the Birth of Her First Child

“Letters to Kenda” is a delightful and inspirational send-off into motherhood for any young woman. This beautiful gift book was written by Kent Humphreys when his daughter, Kenda, and her husband, Jason, were expecting their first child. In it, he shares, letter by letter, the qualities that he considers to be the most important ones for a mother to possess. Written from a man’s point of view, it is at times poignant, humorous, and deeply thought-provoking. By using women in the Bible as examples, and adding descriptions and experiences of women from the Humphreys family, this little book explores foundational Biblical principles and illustrates their current relativity. The result is highly
encouraging and helpful to any new mom.

Letters to Kami

A Father Writes His Daughter on Her 21st Birthday

Every child is different, and being the youngest did not keep Kami from being a strong leader and a diligent worker. Kami and I have always been close. We share the same wild excitement for football
games and life! So, as she turned that magic age, I wanted to share with her some thoughts about life before she graduated from college, got married, and started a career and a family. I sent these letters to Kami over twenty-one weeks as she approached her birthday. This gave me nearly five months to think and study and pray about what to write. The last letter was to arrive on her birthday.

Letters to Workplace Leaders

Targeting Your Fellow Leaders to Spread the Word of Christ

As a follower of Jesus Christ, with the exception of your family, you will probably have no greater lasting influence than you will have as a leader in your workplace. I have been in the workplace for the last 40 years, leading a general merchandise distribution firm, a non-profit ministry to CEOs and business owners, and speaking around the world to leaders like you in the marketplace. During these years, I have shared some of my “lessons learned” with other leaders and my co-workers in monthly letters entitled “From My Heart to Yours”.  I am sharing these with you so that you will be challenged, in order for you to consider some of these values for yourself, and so that you will see how you can share your values in a non-religious way with your co-workers and other leaders in the everyday context of the workplace.
