dec 26th – update

Dear Friends:

It is the morning after Christmas Day, which ended with a gathering of 50 or so of Kent’s family at our house. It is a boisterous, fun, and sweet tradition. It seemed especially tender this year since our patriarch, Jack, fell and broke his hip last week. He is hospitalized and frail, and all of the family members who have been with him around the clock were exhausted beyond words, but happy to be with family at such a time.

This morning is calm and still; there is not even a trace of the usual Oklahoma wind. Our lake is quiet – no birds on the water or even walkers with their dogs. It is the perfect day after a busy “Christmas Week”; it is Sunday. I can’t wait to go to God’s house this morning, and worship Him in quietness and stillness. Although other people will be there, I think I will feel alone with Him, enjoying giving Him the praise of worship and hearing Him speak to my heart. There will be music (how appropriate), and dim lights, accented by the stage light (again, appropriate), and some words. But, mostly, there will be calmness and sweet quietness of heart. It only happens once every seven years that Sunday follows Christmas Day, but I enjoy it every time it occurs.

Kent has done so well this month. He seems not only to have figured out a way to live a full life again, but enjoys it! We cart a lot of medical stuff around, and there are many things he can not do, but we are happy with his state of health. What a miracle! We all thought he would enjoy Christmas in Heaven this year, but God granted us our prayer that he have more time here with us, and we are grateful and thankful.

The year has been such a different one. At this time last year, I didn’t know what a blog was. Now it is like a phone to me – a way to contact my closest friends and family. And that is what you are – our closest friends who have journeyed with us through this year to this joyous point. THANK YOU for the hours of prayer, thoughts and tears that you gave on our behalf. We would not be here, preparing to go to church like ‘normal’ folks, if it weren’t for you.

We love you, Kent and Davidene
