update – aug. 18th

It has been too long since I’ve blogged.  Our days at the lake were wonderful – Kent wrote, we saw friends, and life seemed a little like normal summer. But the one thing that stays constant in life is change, and it happens FAST. Last Sunday night Kent woke up in distress. After a frantic Monday of getting him back to OKC and getting treatments at the drs’ office, it was decided (mainly by Kent) that we would go home – not to the hospital. He again has infection, and was put back on antibiotics. Monday night was pretty rough, but he was a little stronger when Tuesday appeared. He spent Tuesday quietly, except for multiple treatments, and “thumpings” by his new Respiratory Vest. It is now Wed. morning, and we are still at home, a little better every day.

When we saw the dr on Mon., he said that he and Dr. Feller-Kopman had conferred, and agree that the stents need to come out. He could show me sketches explaining their reasons why the stents are problematic, and they seem reasonable. What he couldn’t tell us was how Kent would breathe if they were gone! It is so confusing. Pray for wisdom for us. We are going to try to get the Infectious Diseases dr. and the Rhuematologist together to see if there is something that can be done with medicine to help. We are most likely looking at a trip back to Philadelphia in Sept.

In the meantime, summer is drawing to an end, and we are thankful for the many delightful and memory-making times we have had with family and friends. We live on your prayers. I had my yearly physical yesterday, and the dr. was amazed at what good health I have, especially considering the stress level of life at this time. I told him I am the beneficiary of much prayer, and that is the only explanation. He agreed. So THANK YOU!!!  Davidene

Davidene and Kent…We have a constant prayer vigle for Kent’s health, and it continues unabated. Tell Kent that Art and family are with him in prayer daily, and are looking forward to the healing that will allow you and Kent to once again make the trek to the annual FCCi conference in late Sept. where we can fellowship together again.

It is a joy to see God shinning through each of you, as you have rested in His arms of peace and comfort.
He truly is our life and strength, and Mareita and I will continue to hold you up in prayer.
Thank you for your prayers for her. She has been clean from the lymphoma for 11 years. Her oncologist sais that is a record.
Kent, we are thankful God continues to sustain you so He can do through you all He desires.
    Loving you both,

Don’t know that we have met, but i knew Kent from Nichols Hills low those many years ago. I recently saw in my NWC yearbook this note:

“Harry, I have really had a ball with you this year. In hearts, you are really a ball. I can’t wait to meet with you this summer. Harry, you can really be a leader if you let Him guide you. God bless you, Kent Humphreys (’64)”

Kent was encouraging men even when they were skinny high school freshmen! I thank God for Kent and may his tribe ever increase! When I think of the Oswald Chambers book, My Utmost for His Highest, Kent is one who I believe fits the mold. I pray your health improves, Kent. Harry

  6. Cathy Westm says:

I have zero doubt you & Kent are both rooted into Isaiah 42:5 Thus says God the LORD, Who created the heavens and stretched them out, Who spread out the earth and its offspring, Who gives breath to the people on it And spirit to those who walk in it…

It is quite apparent you do!

    Kent and Davidene,

Greetings from Lagos , Nigeria . Please rest in the assurance that we are all praying out here . Kent’s visit to Lagos a few months ago was such a mighty blessing and to let you know we are indeed carrying Christ into our workplaces ! Little ‘fires’ are being ignited everywhere .

We are currently engaged in a teens’ summer school where we are trying to ignite the passion in these young , active minds with amazing results so far . We have swimming and tennis training tomorrow morning which will be followed by some career counselling in the afternoon . Frankly , think we are being as blessed as the teens themselves .

God bless you for your continued labour of love and thanks for keeping us updated . May His healing balm flow over you at this hour ..in Jesus’ name . Amen . Look forward to seeing you in Lagos again soon !
