july 27 – update

Hi, everyone. It seems like a long time since I blogged, but we got some good news today that I wanted you to know. Kent and I came into Okla. City for three drs. visits. During the first one we received the results of his latest lab tests. His SED rate (level of inflammation) was 47 a month ago. That’s high, and showed that the disease was still very active. Today, his SED rate was 9.  YES, 9. The cancer drug is working, and the disease is now under control. On top of that, Kent has been decreasing the steroids for the last several weeks, and is now down to the low level that the drs have been trying to get him to. He will stay at this level from now on. He can now work seriously on losing weight (pray – that will be hard).

He still is having issues with fluid retention and high blood sugar (diabetes). Also, the biggest issue is still how difficult it is to cough and keep ahead of the mucus build-up in his lungs. The high-cost medicine is apparently not doing much (it was supposed to slow down the production of the mucus in the lungs), and so the dr. said to discontinue its use. The only way to control this production is to take out the stents (The drs think that the increased production of fluid is due to the body’s reaction to those foreign bodies in his lungs). That is not an option as far as Kent is concerned. He would rather have trouble getting rid of lung fluid than to have difficulty breathing at all. So our prayer is now that Kent would have success at clearing the fluid, and break the cycle of the fluid building up until he has to be hospitalized. So far, his longest length of time at home since he received the stents has been 3 weeks.

That is a lot of news for one day! We are heading back to the lake, where he is writing and seeing guests, and being happy. We come back to OKC on Friday to close on the sale of our old house! THANK YOU to those who have been praying for this. It will be a huge burden lifted to have that house sold. It has kept me very busy at times!

Grateful for you,
